PSG 2-0 Man City: Messi opens PSG scoring account with a thunderous strike

Paris Saint-Germain earned their first win of the new Champions League season against Manchester City, in the most expensive fixture of football. Lionel Messi scored his first goal for PSG in a thunderous fashion to double PSG’s lead in the latter half of the game.

Idrissa Gueye scored the first goal of the game, netting from close range for the home team. Manchester City had several chances to pull one back during the game, and Raheem Sterling hit the bar. Bernardo Silva also failed to knock in the rebound and City remained goalless throughout the game.

City had marginally more of the ball than their opponents and had 18 shots in total. However, they could not beat Gianluigi Donnarumma, who made his debut in the Champions League last night. PSG, on the other hand, only needed 3 out of 6 shots on target to beat Ederson twice and secure all three points in a vital fixture.

Messi, Neymar and Mbappe all started for PSG, and managed to wreak havoc on the defensive partnership of Ruben Dias and Aymeric Laporte. Guardiola opted for Raheem Sterling to attack through the middle, with Riyad Mahrez and Jack Grealish on the wings.

Messi’s goal came in the 74th minute, the Argentinian picked up the ball from the halfway line and had a smooth 1-2 with Kylian Mbappe at the edge of the box before firing the ball into the top right corner of the net.

City will have little time to rest as they face Liverpool in the Premier League this weekend, and PSG are up against Rennes in Ligue 1.
