India will be playing the ICC T20I World Cup 2021 in Dubai later this year. One of India’s greatest ever batsmen, Virat Kohli has been captaining the India side for the last 5-6 years.

However, Kohli has now decided to step down from T20 captaincy after the upcoming World Cup. He has made his decision officially by writing a letter on Twitter.

Test – 65 / Won 38
ODI – 95 / Won 65
T20 – 45 / Won 29

Virat Kohli will now only captain the Indian side in ODIs and Tests. He wants to focus more on his batting. Rohit Sharma is poised to take over the baton from Kohli.

The Mumbai Indians’ captain is a great choice for the Indian T20 captain because he is without any doubt the most successful captain in IPL history. Rohit Sharma has led the Mumbai Indians (MI) to victory in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020.

Rohit’s record as captain in T20I cricket is even more outstanding. India has won 15 of the 19 matches under Rohit’s captaincy in the format. These include victories in the Nidahas tri-series in Sri Lanka in 2018 and a 3-0 series sweep against West Indies at home in 2018.

Rohit Sharma is more than a capable replacement for Kohli in the coming days. However, the Indian team will be extra motivated to win the upcoming ICC T20I World Cup 2021 to give Kohli a fitting farewell from T20 captaincy.
