iPhone 13 launch event is set to be held by Apple on September 14. The invite for a virtual ‘California Streaming’ event has been sent out to the media and a handful of leaks give us an idea of what devices could be launched. The iPhone 13 range is largely anticipated to be announced at the event, alongside the Apple Watch Series 7 smartwatch. Even the third generation AirPods are likely to be unveiled on Tuesday, while there are also new iPads and Macs on the horizon as well. Here’s everything that Apple is expected to announce at its event.
iPhone 13 series
Rumours suggest that the iPhone 13 range may feature smaller notches than the last year’s versions and have larger camera sensors to absorb more light. In the new lineup, iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max are also reported to have better ultra-wide cameras.
The regular iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini are reported to be available in 64GB and 128GB storage options. In contrast, iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max are expected to come in 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB storage versions. The rumour mill also suggests that there could be a 1TB storage model for iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max this year.
Most recently, Bloomberg and Ming-Chi Kuo reported that the iPhone 13 will feature new satellite communication technology. These features, which could be enabled via a software update in the future, would allow users to send emergency messages when in areas without cell service.
As for colour options, iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini are tipped to come in Black, Blue, Pink, Purple, (PRODUCT) RED, and White colours. iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max are, on the other hand, expected to come in Black, Brone, Gold, and Silver colours. The upcoming iPhone 13 series will be powered by the A15 chipset, which should offer significant improvements over the A14 Bionic and should be able to take on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 Plus.
The entire iPhone 13 range is expected to see an overall increase in weight and thickness. iPhone 13 Pro Max is reported to see an 18–20 percent larger battery compared to last year’s model. The Pro models may offer 120Hz refresh rate, but it is reported to throttle at 60Hz when in Low Power Mode.
Apple Watch Series 7
Apple Watch Series 7 will have Apple iPhone 12 and iPad Pro like square-edged design, according to the renders surfaced online. This will be a major redesign for the Apple Watch in recent times. Series 7 will be available in 41mm and 45mm sizes, up from 40mm and 44mm.
While health features are a major selling point of the Apple Watch, we aren’t expecting any major updates in this department this year. Apple is said to be working on updates to existing features, including blood oxygen measurement and irregular heart rhythm notifications.
However, recent reports suggested that Apple is facing production delays due to the new Watch Series 7 design. This means the Cupertino giant might not announce the smartwatch at all or either introduce them officially on the September 14th event and put them for sale at a later date.
Apple AirPods 3
Coming to the third-generation AirPods, the earphones could also be unveiled at the Apple event. The tech giant may call it AirPods 3 and they may come with an AirPods Pro-like design. The next-generation AirPods could also include a wireless charging case as standard. The charging case is tipped to have a 20% larger battery compared to the second generation. Batteries may likely be the same size as the ones on AirPods Pro. As for sound quality, it may offer noticeably better bass and low ends.
iOS 15 Software update
Lastly, Apple will also announce when the iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 updates will be rolled out to everyone. Historically, Apple has always pushed the stable version of its iOS updates days after (or on the same day sometimes) unveiling new iPhones. We can expect the iOS 15 to be available on September 14th or sometime later this month.
Apple iPad mini 6 and iPad 9
Other Apple tablets, including the iPad, iPad Air and iPad Pro have already seen updates this year, so that just leaves the iPad Mini. According to Gurman, a redesign for the iPad Mini “should be a go” for fall 2021.
We could see an upgrade to Apple’s iPad this fall with a new ninth-generation model. According to Gurman, the tech giant’s next tablet could feature a slimmer design and an improved processor.
Apple MacBook Pro and Mac mini
Last year, Apple announced that it would be producing its own chip, known as the M1, to power its Mac. Since then, there has been speculation that Apple may soon announce a new version of its processor for the new MacBook Pro or Mac Pro.
Apple also previously announced a new iMac powered by the M1 processor, but it was only the smaller 24-inch model. Bloomberg has reported that Apple is working on processor updates for both the Mac Mini and 27-inch iMac.
