Sheffield United manager confirms Ramsdale wants to join Arsenal

Sheffield United boss Slavisa Jokanovic has now confirmed Aaron Ramsdale’s desire to join Arsenal this summer.

There were rumours linking the player to the Emirates but recently, talks between the two clubs seemed to have broken down. The comments of Jokanovic have reignited the transfer rumours linking Ramsdale with a switch to the Premier League.

“It is natural he wants to be a Premier League player,” the Blades boss told reporters on Tuesday.

“If you ask me if I want to sell him for £100m, ‘no’. But I understand the business side of the club.

“I am talking with him. He believes it can be a good move for him but it is not a bad thing for him if he stays with us. He is a talented English player and Arsenal are interested. If he is one of the best players in the league, his price is high.”

Ramsdale was called up to Gareth Southgate’s England squad for Euro 2020 as a backup keeper, but was not needed with Jordan Pickford between the sticks. He is currently valued at €12 million on the transfer market and Sheffield United have indicated that they won’t let him go on the cheap. So, Arsenal will have to negotiate a decent fee like they did for Ben White from Brighton.

The 23-year-old came through the Sheffield United academy, and was sold to Bournemouth. After a few loan spells away, he returned to Sheffield United for a €20 million transfer last summer, and is being linked with a departure only one season after making his return to Bramall Lane.
