AI is here to design complex chips and Samsung will use it

Every one of us might have watched movies where we see AI and robots taking the control of the world and whatnot! However, the thing that we humans cannot do in an acute way, these days AI or Artificial Intelligence is doing for us and now that also includes designing chips.

Yes, AI is here to automate the complex and subtle process of designing cutting-edge computer semiconductors. Synopsys is one of the companies that use such AI for chip designing and the software firm lends its AI to other companies, and so the South Korean giant will be one of the first chipmakers to use AI to create its chips.

“What you’re seeing here is the first of a real commercial processor design with AI,” says Aart de Geus, the chairman and co-CEO of Synopsys. Though Google, NVIDIA might be talking about designing chips using AI, Samsung could end up being one of the first to actually implement so.

With the flexibility and the huge resource that this South Korean giant has, only a few companies on Earth can compete against. So, now using AI, or the Synopsys’ tool, called DSO.ai for making chips is a unique move by Samsung to lead the race this semiconductor industry is running.

As we know, AI gets better with experience and the amount of data we feed them and as Synopsys works with dozens of companies, it is said to have the potential to accelerate semiconductor development and unlock novel chip designs as Wired points out.

They even confirmed from a spokesperson for Samsung that it will be using Synopsys AI software to design its next-gen Exynos chips, used in their smartphones, and other gadgets. It is an expensive way though but as the prices of servers and computing are reducing, this is paving way for new techniques, while Samsung making its own chips is helpful for them to make better and powerful chips for the future.
