IPL 2021: Reliance planning to make an entry into IPL’s broadcasting

Phase 2 of IPL 2021 will commence in a month’s time. As a result, there is a lot of gossips because one of Cricket’s biggest events is around the corner. Among this gossips, there are certain developments about the event’s future.

As BCCI is getting ready for the tender of the IPL media rights, there are rumors that a new contender is aiming for the broadcasting rights for IPL in the future. According to reports, Reliance Industries is all set to embark into sports broadcasting through Network 18 Group and Reliance Jio. The report by E4M also believes that IPL media rights will be Reliance’s first target next year & the company has already started its preparations.

The partnership of BCCI with Disney Star India will end in 2022. Therefore BCCI will come out for the new tender rights by the end of 2021. However, Reliance will face competition as Disney Star, Sony Pictures Network will probably re-enter once again. Moreover, according to a report, Amazon India will also step into this race for media rights.

Although Reliance has made significant development in sports and they are trying to expand more by trying to gain media rights. Moreover, they have made this their top priority. Hence it would be interesting to see how this bidding war between top companies unfolds.

The Involvement of Reliance in IPL and other Sports

As mentioned above Reliance has been making moves in the world of Sports. They are further trying to strengthen their reach and growth by trying to get into the race for media rights of IPL. As everyone would know Reliance owns the IPL’s most successful team that is Mumbai Indians. Reliance Industries have been owners since the team was founded in 2008. Moving on Reliance owned entity owns the Indian Super League. Moreover, the company also develops football on the grassroots level by organizing state-level tournaments.

Last but not the least, Reliance Jio has formed a partnership with BCCI and several other sports to stream matches on their platform. Therefore Reliance has helped India make tremendous progress in terms of sports and is eyeing to do the same in the future.
