No Break For Pedri: 73 Games Last Season but will start Pre-Season this Wednesday

Pedri was Barcelona’s breakout star last season as he scored four goals and six assists while playing in a variety of positions. Moreover, his performance for Spain in the Euros was excellent. Therefore there are high expectations from the Spanish player to develop and become a huge star for the club and country

However, there lies a huge injury risk because Pedri is set to return to pre-season training this Wednesday. Owing to the fact, he has played the most number of games last season. The Spanish teenager played 73 matches for the club and country. As a result, there are high chances that the player could get injured due to fatigue.

If we take a look at Pedri’s career this season, he joined Barcelona from Las Palmas for a transfer fee of €5 million + add-ons. After making his debut against Villarreal, the teenager impressed everyone with his flair and creativity. Consequently, he broke into the Spanish squad and became a starter for the Euros. Moreover, he played a part in every fixture of the tournament. Following Spain’s knockout from the Euros most players got a break and went for a vacation.

However, Pedri headed to Tokyo to take part in the Olympics. The 18-year-old helped Spain reach the finals of the Olympics before losing 2-1 to Brazil at extra time. Therefore the Spanish player needs to rest to be sharp for the new season. Hence his decision to return to training quickly comes with huge injury risk.

Pedri could become the next Anderson

If Pedri does not take adequate rest he could end up becoming the next Anderson. Just like the Spanish teenager, Anderson had great potential and was touted to become one of the best players in the world. However, the Brazilian played a lot of games in 2008 for Manchester United and went to Olympics without taking any break.

Subsequently, Anderson could not return to his original form as his fitness was never the same. The Brazilian suffered injuries regularly and could never fulfil his potential. Therefore Pedri has to take care of his body as he has not completely developed physically or he will destroy his career.

In the end, it is up to the player himself to make good decisions for his career. Moreover, the club also needs to take care of Pedri and secure his future because he will become a valuable asset to the club in the future.
