Leicester City 1-0 Manchester City: Foxes win Community Shield thanks to late Iheanacho penalty strike

Leicester City had another magical evening at Wembley Stadium as they defeated the champions of England to win the FA Community Shield. The match is the curtain raiser for the 21/22 season, and the Foxes have captured the first piece of silverware available to them to begin the season on a high note.

Brendan Rodgers deployed the entirety of his first team, while Manchester City had several positions rotated and youngsters included in the squad. The first half of the game was energetic, with fans cheering on both sets of teams for their efforts. The best chance of the initial 45 minutes fell in favour of Leicester City, but following the scramble right before half time, they were denied by the post.

Following the official announcement of the transfer, Britain’s most expensive player of all time, Jack Grealish made his debut in the second half. He was quite impressive on the ball, with the former Aston Villa man having a spring in his step whenever he had the ball at his feet. However, it was not enough to get them back in the game.

Iheanacho scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot, after being fouled by Nathan Ake after he was dispossessed in his own box. The former City player had enough power to beat Zack Steffen even though he got a hand to it.

Leicester’s new players, Patson Daka, Boubakary Soumare and Ryan Bertrand also featured as they won the game. All in all, it was a solid defensive performance from the Foxes to shut out City and hand them their first loss of the season.
