BREAKING: Messi’s contract negotiations with Barcelona hit a roadblock and have reached a point of no return

In a shocking revelation published by Marca, Lionel Messi has ‘never been further away from renewing with Barcelona.’ The report goes on to state the line twice due to its unexpected nature.

The reports coming out of Barcelona explain that Messi’s entourage and the club had a meeting to discuss the future. According to rumours prior to the meeting, Messi had agreed on a five-year deal with Barcelona until 2026, and it now seems like the player will not sign the contract after all.

Marca further went on to state that the damage caused in the meeting between the two parties is irreversible and it is now almost certain that Messi will not add to his 21-year spell with Barcelona.

One of the main reasons behind Messi’s change of heart is Barcelona’s lack of ability to provide reinforcements. Messi wanted his Argentina teammate and Serie A defender of the year for 2021, Cristian Romero at the club. However, Tottenham finalised the deal quickly and Romero is now set to make the move to London while Barcelona were never in the race to sign him.

Despite factors like the CBC investment coming in recently, the financial angle will become very complicated if Barcelona still try to sign him.

While Marca’s reports indicate that a point of no return has been reached, there are reports that state that the two parties will continue talking to try and resolve all issues as soon as possible.
