Meet BMW’s futuristic CE 04 electric scooter

For years BMW has been planning to make a game-changing electric city scooter, and it might finally be on the brink of launching one. BMW has announced that the company’s Motorrad division will be starting the production of the striking BMW CE 04. This new offering in the EV space will have a decent range and speed and showcase plenty of futuristic vibes.

BMW CE 04 was unveiled as a concept scooter in November 2020. At the time, it looked much like another concept by BMW back in 2017. The most striking aspect of the production version is that it almost looks exactly like the noteworthy concept. BMW for sure wants to make a statement with this one.

BMW is really putting forward the CE 04 as a city vehicle which was clear from their press release. They aren’t willing to please a wider range of buyers by toning down on the design. The CE 04 has striking bright orange accents and sharp, angular lines that give it a futuristic feel.

More Details on the CE 04

A limited 81-mile range was made possible with the help of a lithe 8.9kWh battery (the same cells powering the BMW iX SUV). This range is enough to cover the kinds of distances one generally covers with a scooter. The CE 04 has regenerative braking, which feeds energy back into the battery. This will help while driving in a city where there is a need for a lot of braking.

With what has been served to us, the CE 04 seems to be a fun ride. BMW claims the CE 04 has a maximum output of 31kW (42 horsepower) and a top speed of 120kmph (roughly 75mph). Some other technologies will be automatic stability control, dynamic traction control, and an anti-lock braking system which will help riders keep a check while driving.

There will also be a 10.25-inch TFT screen between the handlebars which will be helpful for onboard navigation and smartphone connectivity. There will also be an actively ventilated mobile phone charging compartment with a USB Type-C charging port.

If you remember the BMW C Evolution, it was one of the first electric scooters by the German company. The C Evolution was rather well-received, but it never really caught on due to the huge $13,000 price tag. Similarly, the CE 04 will start at around $12,000. A huge price tag for sure!
