It turns out, Chrome OS’s latest stable update isn’t stable at all

Google released its new Chrome OS update on its stable channel last week, and the OS update was described as stable, so the users who planned to install the OS update were delighted to download and use the update. However, to their surprise, they did run into some bugs and issues after installing a stable OS update.

As it turns out, the latest stable update, the Chrome OS version 91.0.4472.147, is not stable. Many Chromebook owners are complaining about severe degradation in performance after installing the latest Chrome OS update on their devices.

However, the biggest shock was that the performance issues were not caused by opening multiple tabs in the Chrome browser or juggling between apps. While doing basic things like typing, navigating around the UI, and even while opening apps brought the PC to a halt. And this complaint has been brought forward by almost all the users who have installed this new so-called stable update.

After performing the usual troubleshooting steps like disabling all extensions, performing powerwash, restarting the Chromebook, etc., it usually helps solve the performance issues. However, this time the usual methods aren’t helping either.

Some users also reported that some of their issues were tied with the high CPU usage, as many people are noticing up to 100% CPU usage when checking with the Diagnostics app. Other users reported extreme sluggishness even with perfectly normal CPU usage and nothing performance-hungry running in the background.

Well, the silver lining is that not all Chromebooks seem to be affected by this. Some users who have installed the Chrome OS version 91.0.4472.147 have reported that they have not experienced any issues. It seems that the issue is limited to devices with grunt and hatch boards.
