Juan Mata extends his stay at Old Trafford

Spanish attacking midfielder and 2010 World Cup winner Juan Mata has signed a contract extension which extends his stay at Old Trafford till June 2022.

Juan Mata emerged from Real Madrid’s youth academy who then moved to Valencia following which me came to Premier League in a move to Chelsea in a former club record fee £37.1million in January 2014 . Where he made 135 appearances for Chelsea making a 90 G/A contribution to his team.

Following which he joined the Red Devils under former boss Jose Mourinho. In his Manchester United Career so far he has made 273 appearances scoring 51 goals and providing 47 assists in his 7 year stay at Old Trafford.

In his stay at Manchester United Juan Mata has helped the team win FA Cup, League Cup and Europa League throughout these years. He has also led Manchester United on many occasions and has one of the first choice freekick takers of Manchester United.

Manchester United made a statement post-contract renewal  “Dubbed a magician on the pitch and a gentleman off it, Mata has become one of the most popular players in recent United history and he is highly respected by all of his team-mates.”

“The World Cup winner’s influence on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s young, improving squad is invaluable.”

Along with Mata’s contract renewal Manchester United also announced the arrival of veteran goalkeeper Tom Heaton who stated “For me to have the opportunity to come back after spending 13 great years here as a kid, it’s an incredible feeling and I’m really, really excited to get started.”
