Barcelona to offload Firpo Junior and Miralem Pjanic this summer

After confirming numerous signings in the last month, Barcelona are looking at departures for fringe players. Jean-Clair Todibo and youth winger Konrad de la Fuente have already left to join Nice and Marseille respectively.

The pair are now expected to be followed by Firpo Junior and Miralem Pjanic. The former has an agreement in place with Leeds United, and will leave on a permanent transfer worth around £12.5 million. Other clubs like West Ham United, Southampton and AC Milan have inquired for the full-back, but he has chosen Yorkshire as his next destination.

Inter in talks with Junior Firpo’s agents for days to speed up Lautaro Martinez deal

Firpo joined the Spanish giants a couple of years ago as a backup for Jordi Alba, and only played sporadically for them. He is now being sold off to free up the wage bill, and a part of the transfer fee will be paid to his former club, Real Betis.

Pjanic, on the other hand, was signed in an absurd exchange deal involving Arthur Melo, and has failed to establish himself as a starter under Ronald Koeman. Inter, AC Milan and Tottenham are interested in signing him on loan this summer. His former club, Juventus have also inquired about signing him on loan, but they need him to reduce his wages for that to happen.

Barcelona are trying their best to optimize the squad ahead of the new season, and have been successful so far. Their recruitments have all been free transfers, and that goes to show the impact Joan Laporta has had on the way things work at the club.
