Mbappe’s underwhelming Euro 2020 campaign by the numbers

Kylian Mbappe was quite underwhelming in France’s short-lived Euro 2020 campaign, scoring no goals and providing only one assist in the entire campaign. His only goal contribution came against Switzerland in France’s final game of the tournament, which Benzema converted into a world-class goal thanks to his first touch and subsequent finish.

The player had a 78% passing success rate throughout the 390 minutes, according to UEFA’s official website. He had 14 attempts on goal, and only three of them were on target, which, considering the quality that we have grown used to expect, is not a very positive return by the numbers.

Mbappe could have had a goal to his name at the tournament in the very first game against Germany, but it was ultimately ruled out for offside. The Paris Saint-Germain star couldn’t come up with the proper end product despite engaging in numerous chances going forward.

He only created 7 chances throughout the tournament, which is an acceptable number if you consider him to be an orthodox striker. But that isn’t his position in the team, since he operates as a double striker alongside Karim Benzema.

To make things worse, the youngster missed the decisive penalty in the shootout, which was saved by Yann Sommer. The player has been subjected to a lot of criticism for his performances, but it is easy to forget that he is only 22. Football legend Pele has also cheered the starlet on, urging him to come back stronger than ever after the tournament.
