Intel’s Alder Lake and Xe-HPG DG2 GPU appear together in the new Geekbench test

Intel’s much-teased 12th gen Alder Lake hybrid CPUs will be hitting the market later this year, and many are also anxious about the launch of the company’s hyped DG2 Xe-HPG GPU for gamers. And when something is close to being launched, we see many leaks about the products surface online. As such, another leak has shown up on Geekbench that shows a 14-core Alder Lake CPU paired with a Xe-HPG DG2 GPU with 256 execution units (EUs).

According to the Geekebench records, the DG2-256 GPU has a frequency of 1.4 GHz with a 6.22 GB memory. In the Geekbench scores, the GPU has been reported as a “Gen 12 Desktop Graphics Controller”. Its also been revealed that the CPU used in the test was a 14-core Alder Lake processor based on the FCBGA 1744 socket. This indicates that DG2-256 could be a scaled-down version of DG2-384 meant for laptops.

The Alder Lake processor was reported to have a base clock of 797 MHz and a boost of 3,989 MHz in the test. We already know that Alder Lake is a hybrid CPU architecture. It will combine slower, energy-efficient Gracemont cores and faster, more powerful Golden Cove cores.

It seems that the latest benchmark scores were influenced by this combination. We have already heard the rumours that Intel’s Xe-HPG DG2 is expected to first launch in laptops later this year, followed by desktop versions in early 2022.

Speaking about the OpenCL bench results, the DG2-256 scores about 18,450 points, meaning it’s on par with the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050.  According to the OpenCL test, the integrated GPU version of Xe-HPG managed to pull out a score of 6,516 points.  Intel is hyping up the release of its new GPU and is trying to compete with Nvidia’s Ampere and AMDs RDNA2 cards; let’s see what the battle unfolds.
