Ashley Young is being linked with a return to Aston Villa this summer, after a decade away from the Midlands club. Inter Milan are willing to let the player go in an attempt to balance their books, following immense financial despair which caused Antonio Conte to depart the club.

Young made over 200 appearances for Villa between 2007 and 2011, and then left the club to join Manchester United. He established himself as a solid winger at Old Trafford, and also enjoyed a spell with the England national team, having played at the 2018 World Cup.

His other former club, Watford and Burnley are also targeting the player, who will join whichever club of his choosing as a free agent. Hence, nothing is done until he puts pen to paper and holds up the jersey of his next club.

There were rumours that Inter Milan had offered him a contract extension and that he had accepted it as well. However, it now looks like Young will choose to return to Villa park at the age of 35 to help his former club potentially challenge for European spots next season.

The wide player made over 30 appearances across all competitions for Inter Milan in 20/21. He scored a solitary goal and provided four assists for the team as they lifted the Serie A title after a decade, ending Juventus’ streak of winning the league title.

No matter where he goes next, Young’s experience at the age of 35 will be vital. Especially given that he has applied his trade across the country, and now abroad as well.
