New leaks by Moore’s Law is Dead shed more light on the cores of Alder Lake lineup

Recently we are seeing a lot of new leaks and speculations appearing online, and now Moore’s Law is Dead as published the design, specs, and launch of Intel’s next-generation 12th Gen Alder Lake and 13th Gen Raptor Lake CPU families. All the alleged information from MLID has been reliable up until now and it has turned to be pretty accurate so it’s something to look forward to.

Most of the information about the Alder Lake family has already been leaked online and this new information is based on the previous leaks and rumors and it seems that some new information has also been added.

Intel Golden Cove (Core) Architecture:

  • Improve Single-Threaded Performance (IPC)
  • Improve Artificial Intelligence (AI) Performance
  • Improve Network/5G Performance
  • Enhanced Security Features

Intel Gracemont (Atom) Architecture:

  • Improve Single-Threaded Performance (IPC)
  • Improve Frequency (Clock Speeds)
  • Improve Vector Performance

Following is the exact breakdown of the cache subsystem of Intel’s Alder Lake Desktop CPUs:

Golden Cove Cores:

  • 32 KB (L1I) Per Core
  • 48 KB (L1D) Per Core
  • 1280 KB (L2) Per Core
  • 3072 KB (L3) Per Core

Gracemont Cores:

  • 64 KB (L1I) Per Core
  • 32 KB (L1D) Per Core
  • 2048 KB (L2) x 4 Cores
  • 3072 KB (L3) x 4 Cores

According to the latest leak, and as announced by Intel, the most attractive part of the Alder Lake design is its hybrid core design which would include both Golden Cove cores (successor to Willow Cove) & also the Gracemont cores which are the next-generation Atom architecture.

According to information the Golden Cove cores will serve as the big cores on the CPU & will feature simultaneous multi-threading support. and shedding some light on the Alder Lake-S CPU 8+8 CPU SKU, leaks indicate that the 8 Golden Cove cores will feature 32 KB (L1I) and 48 KB (L1D) cache (per core). its also been alleged that each of the CPU core will also feature 1280 KB of L2 cache for a total of 10 MB L2 cache while the L3 cache will be 3072 KB per core or 24 MB in total.

It further stated that in the Gracemont cores, each core will have 64 KB (L1I) & 32 KB (L1D) cache. There will be two slices comprising of 4 Gracemont cores each consisting of L2 and L3 cache. It will feature 2048 KB L2 cache or 4 MB L2 in total and 3072 KB L3 cache or 6 MB in total. The Alder Lake Core i9 SKU will feature 16 cores and 24 threads, the Core i7 SKU will feature 12 cores and 20 threads while the Core i5 SKU will feature 10 cores and 16 threads, and they all will be introduced around the 25th of October, 2021.

  • Intel Core i9 K-Series (8 Golden + 8 Grace) = 16 Cores / 24 Threads
  • Intel Core i7 K-Series (8 Golden + 4 Grace) = 12 Cores / 20 Threads
  • Intel Core i5 K-Series (6 Golden + 4 Grace) = 10 Cores / 16 Threads
  • Intel Core i9 A-Series (8 Golden + 8 Grace) = 16 Cores / 24 Threads
  • Intel Core i7 A-Series (8 Golden + 4 Grace) = 12 Cores / 20 Threads
  • Intel Core i5 A-Series (6 Golden + 0 Grace) = 6 Cores / 12 Threads
  • Intel Core i3 A-Series (4 Golden + 0 Grace) = 4 Cores / 8 Threads
