Google and Samsung make a deal to merge Wear OS and Tizen

The long-standing rumours regarding a possible partnership between tech giants Samsung and Google have finally been deemed right. They have decided to combine both their Wear OS with Google’s OS and Tizen-based software platform.

The final name will be ‘Wear’ for the time being. Google’s Wear OS has received mediocre reviews and has been criticized for the infrequent updates. Earlier this month, Google had promised to provide frequent updates to its Wear OS to improve its popularity. Samsung is the pioneer that will enable Google to integrate a longer battery life in the Wear devices.

With this partnership, Google promises faster performance, with apps starting 30% faster on the latest chipsets with smooth UI animations and motions. For longer battery life, the lower layers of the OS have been optimized so that they take advantage of lower power hardware cores.

To give an idea of how it will be, the user can run the heart rate sensor throughout the day, track your sleep and still have enough battery for the next day.

All device makers will be able to add a customized user experience on top of the platform, and developers will be able to use the Android tools they already know and love to build for one platform and ecosystem.

Google is also working on redesigning and improving Maps and assistant for your wrist. Additionally, Google Pay will begin working with the watches in 26 new countries beyond the existing 11.

This collaboration will certainly improve the Wearables sector and hopefully even give competition to Apple in that regard.
