It’s confirmed, AMD has cancelled its rumoured next-generation Ryzen 6000 CPUs based on the Zen 3+ core architecture and codenamed Warhol. The latest leaks provided by multiple leakers & insiders suggest that AMD has cut off Warhol from its desktop roadmap and will now be focusing entirely on its Zen 4 Raphael CPUs.
Warhol was expected to feature the Zen 3+ architecture based on the 6nm process node and would have offered similar gains in performance, such as the AMD Zen 2+ (Pinnacle Ridge) chips were branded as the Ryzen 2000 parts. But AMD has decided to move away from Warhol and focus on Raphael.
It seems a logical move for AMD to move from Zen 3+ architecture to a truly next-generation Zen-4 architecture based Raphael, which will offer a true increase in performance and efficiency.
Another reason why AMD might have decided to scrap Warhol could be related to the ongoing global chip shortage. The current CPU shortages have put tremendous pressure on TSMC’s inability to keep up with 7nm demand, and thus AMD might decide to skip Warhol CPUs and focus its efforts on the next-generation AM5 platform featuring the Zen 4 based 5nm Raphael Ryzen CPUs.
