Star India retains Pro Kabaddi league broadcasting rights for the next 5 years

Star Network retains the broadcasting rights of the Pro Kabaddi League for the next 5 years.

A few days back, a tender was issued by Mashal Sports for the broadcasting rights. Mashal Sports invited bids for that. As per some reports, Star Network was the only bidder for the broadcasting rights. Star will now broadcast & LIVE Stream PKL on their channels for the next 5 years.

PKL tender was completed on Friday as Delhi High Court allowed Mashal Sports to conduct the tender. In their interim order Court announced a condition that any future order of the court will be binding on the result of the tender.

A petition was submitted against Mashal Sports. The petitioner alleged, “When the contract period between Mashal Sports and AKFI is for 10 years, who gave the authority to Mashal Sports to conduct the tender beyond that contract period.”

Mashal Sports spokesperson told, “Our Media Rights offering for ensuing 5 PKL Seasons (2021 – 2025) are based on the relevant rights and contractual frameworks.”

The base price of the PKL Media Rights tender was fixed at 900 Cr. Many parties bought the tender document. But no one comes up with a real bid for the PKL rights. Star Network won the unchallenged race and got the broadcasting rights for the next 5 years.
