MI pulls off a stunner to beat KKR. The defending champions won the match by 10 runs.
Kolkata Knight Riders won the toss and opted to bowl first. KKR bowlers did a great job to restrict MI within 152 runs in 20 overs. MI skipper Rohit Sharma [43 of 32] and Suryakumar Yadav [56 of 36], both played an excellent innings to set a fighting total on the board.
While chasing, KKR got a perfect start. Both the openers were looking in good form. Shubman Gill [33 of 24] and Nitish Rana [57 of 47] did their job to give a perfect start. After the match, KKR captain Eoin Morgan was disappointed with his team’s performance. He said, “Yes, disappointing (to lose). Played some really good cricket for most parts of the game, we looked comfortable in the chase, but they are a strong team, came back well, and sad that it didn’t work out for us. Made a few mistakes, will need to sort it out. A perfect game needs to be bold, it came to cost us in the last 10 overs of the game (not being bold enough to finish off the chase).
On the other hand, MI Skipper Rohit Sharma was delighted with his team’s performance. He said, “Was a great fightback, excellent fightback by each one of them. You don’t see a game like this often. Lots of confidence from this game and we move forward. KKR batted brilliantly in the powerplay. Rahul came and got us crucial wickets in the middle. Krunal bowling those overs at the end was vital as well. It was a complete team effort and credit to all the bowlers.”
