What a Gambling and Betting App Knows About You

As technology in gambling continues to develop, we have seen the introduction of some fantastic features. Mobile betting, in-play sports betting, live casino games, build your own bet, and live streaming are just some of the major additions to the online gambling world in recent years. However, when you register and begin betting at a gambling app, you are passing on some of your personal details to the company. With that in mind, exactly what does a gambling and betting app know about you?

Thanks to the change in legislation, there are now lots of legal us sportsbooks apps, including DraftKings, BetMGM Sport, BetRivers Sportsbook, PointsBet, William Hill, 888 Sport, FanDuel, and Bet365. Some of these are the biggest and most popular online gambling brands in the world but when you install and use their application, what do they learn about you?

If you are interested or concerned about your online privacy, you may like to know about the type of information gambling apps track. It is worth remembering, an online gambling app is a business and they are trying to make money. Therefore, if you are an infrequent gambler, who occasionally has a bet on a popular event, such as the Super Bowl but little else during the year, you are unlikely to be of any interest to the gambling company. However, if you gamble online regularly and lose a lot of money to the sportsbook or casino, you are going to be of interest to them for obvious reasons. They make money from your betting activity. So, if a gambling app is going to push betting offers, it is most likely they are going to use the information to ensure the offer comes before the eyes of the regular gambler who is losing money, then the occasional gambler.

It is worth remembering that a lot of the information that is tracked and recorded from you by an online gambling company is simply for legal reasons. In the United States for example, it is still illegal to bet online in several states and by using the data gathered by the gambling app, it is possible to block those who are trying to access the gambling website illegally. Other factors considered when using personal data include the age of the user and if they are developing a gambling problem. It is not always easy to identify the latter but responsible gambling companies will reach out to those they believe are developing a problem. The only way they can know this is by compiling information about the account holder and their betting habits.

Some of the other advantages to players of gambling apps monitoring your activity is they can tailor special offers. For example, a gambling app will know if you regularly bet on Major League Baseball and you are more likely to receive a special offer on baseball markets than soccer markets.

When joining any online gambling app, you should read the privacy policy if you are in any doubt about how your data is being used.
