Commission fees could push Erling Haaland as the most expensive player in history

Erling Haaland is the talk of transfer town, and despite there being a release clause in place which comes in starting from 2022, valued at €75 million, the Norwegian is being heavily linked with an exit from Borussia Dortmund this summer itself.

His agent, Mino Raiola and father had recently been spotted in Barcelona and Madrid, travelling to Spain to discuss projects and potential plans for the player if he chooses a club with the representatives of Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Manchester City lead race for Erling Haaland from England

In the meeting with Barcelona president Joan Laporta, Raiola and Alf Inge Haaland made it clear that a sum worth €40 million had to be paid as commission to the two, with both of them demanding €20 million each. Adding to the expenses involved in transfer fees and the fact that Haaland would want a salary worth €30 million for his contract, the deal becomes an astronomically expensive one to carry out in the current financial climate.

As outlined by Raiola himself, there are only a handful of clubs that have the financial strength to invest in an asset like Erling Haaland. Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, Liverpool and PSG are among those clubs, and of them, the two El Clasico giants are reportedly the ones that Haaland himself favours.

Whether or not the deal will be carried out this year is something that remains a question mark still. Borussia Dortmund’s ability to qualify for the Champions League next season will also affect the decision that will be made by the 20-year-old at the end of the campaign.
