Chris Gayle makes a return to the West Indies cricket team at the age of 41 after an 18-month absence

Chris Gayle made a return to the West Indies cricket team after coach Phil Simmons included Gayle in his squad for the upcoming T20I and one-day international series against Sri Lanka.

Gayle, 41 years old, has not played in the shortest form of the game internationally after March 2019 against England, and last also, in the same year, in August, he played a single one-day international against India. 

The three-match T20I series in Coolidge will take place between March 3 and 7, and later on, the duo will compete in three one-day internationals, which will begin from March 10th and end on March 14th in North Sound.

Although, Gayle had stated at one stage that the 2019 India series, where he surpassed Brian Lara’s ODI runs record for the Windies, would be his last as internationally.

However, it was suggested that during the 2020 Bangladesh Premier League, he could play until the age of 45. Still, soon Gayle indicated that he has a serious aim as he put in several magnificent displays for Kings XI Punjab in the IPL, which includes two half-centuries against Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders, to help his side five straight wins. 

After playing in two matches for the Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League, he proved his fitness and worth to secure his position in the squad of the Windies and has the target of helping the West Indies side to win their World T20 title in India in October, by when he will be already 42.

Gayle Surpassed one of Lara’s records, as he holds numerous records in all three forms of the game. 

Gayle is the first batsman to score a century in all formats of international cricket, as he has hit the most centuries by a West Indian with 25 and also has hit the most sixes in international cricket with 534. 

Fidel Edwards, who last donned the international jersey last time in a Test match against Bangladesh in November 2012, will join Chris Gayle, in the West Indies squad.
