The reconstruction project’s idea is to make the stadium more efficient, comfortable, and more sustainable, which will also be providing greater regular income streams to the club.

In 2016, the Madrid Council, which mayor Manuela Carmena leads approved the club’s provisional plans. However, the idea of Perez’s was rejected of integrating a hotel and shopping centre into the facility, to increase the club’s revenues.

The stadium’s capacity will remain unchanged, a retractable roof will be put in place, while the arena is going to become more fan-friendly, along with car parking removed for public space.
