Marseille complete the signing of Arek Milik from Napoli on loan

After being frozen out of the Napoli first team this season, Polish striker Arkadiusz Milik has been officially announced as a Marseille player. The striker will don the number 19 shirt at his new club.

Marseille have signed the player on an initial 18-month long loan deal that will see him stay at the club till the end of the 21/22 season at the very least. At that point, the Ligue 1 club will have the option to make the switch permanent for a fee worth €12 million (€8 million upfront + €4 million in bonuses).

“I am happy and proud to announce that I am officially a player of Olympique de Marseille, one of the most prestigious clubs in Europe,” Milik wrote on Twitter.

“I’m ready for this new adventure. Allez OM.”

It is worth noting that Milik has not kicked a ball in club football this season, having been left out of the squad. The pressure to deliver will be on his shoulders right from the get-go, and the 26-year-old now has the perfect opportunity to revive his playing career, entering his prime years as a footballer.

The striker was linked with a potential switch to Manchester United and Roma in the summer and was most recently looked at by Atletico Madrid as a replacement for the outgoing Diego Costa. However, they signed Moussa Dembele from Lyon and Milik has now ended up in Ligue 1.

Marseille are currently in a tight spot in the league and find themselves in 6th, on the back of only 4 points from their last five games. They will be hoping that the arrival of Milik at the club will boost their attack and help them climb into the Champions League places at the very least.
