Sokratis terminates his contract with Arsenal

Arsenal announced the departure of veteran defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos.

The 32-year-old Greek defender had become a fringe player in the Arsenal squad recently. He was not even included to play in the Premier League or Europa League this season just like Mesut Ozil. He hasn’t featured since the FA Cup final last season.

Moreover, Arsenal were facing some financial issues following the COVID-19 pandemic. So, they want to clear out this player in this transfer window. They have already sold Sead Kolasinac to Schalke. Mesut Ozil is also in his way to Fenerbahce. Now Sokratis also agreed to terminate his contract.

Sokratis joined Arsenal in 2018 from Borussia Dortmund. He has appeared in 69 games for the Gunners in these 3 years. He has won the FA Cup with Arsenal last season.
