2021 Hundred League: Indian Women cricket players to play abroad in 2021

The BCCI has stated that they are in the works for the idea of letting Indian players of a particular age category to participate in the ‘Hundred League’, which is a collaborative tournament of the England and Wales Cricket Board. For this, the under-23 players of India, both capped and uncapped are in the pot of consideration.

After being at the summit of the ICC Women’sT20 rankings, Shafali Varma has become the latest addition to the list of players who will be playing in England. The 17-year-old batsman from Haryana will be playing for Birmingham Phoenix in the first season of the league. Shafali has a great record with 617 runs in 22 international matches, with a strike rate of 148.31. There are four other players who are set to join the youngster in England.

Punjab based Harmanpreet Kaur among the candidates who are set to join Manchester Originals for the league. The 32-year-old all-rounder took Indian national team captaincy 2016 from Mithali Raj in the T20 series against West Indies.

Maharashtra’s Smriti Mandhana has been bagged by Southern Brave for the aforementioned competition this term. The 24-year-old opener has hit 2172 runs in 56 matches of Women’s ODI, and 1782 runs in 78 matches of Women’s T20 Internationals with strike rates of 84.97 and 120.16 respectively.

All-rounder Deepti Sharma is stated to have confirmed for London Spirit for the inaugural season of the Hundred League. Bagging 65 wickets along with 1488 runs in 58 ODIs, the 23-year-old has impressed. Her 433 runs in 37 innings in T20 Internationals also add to her commendable statistics. The Uttar Pradesh based cricketer holds the ODI record for the third most runs in an innings with 188.

Jemimah Rodrigues is also one of the five Indian players to be featured in the Hundred League list and will be joining Northern Superchargers. At 20 years of age, she has represented India at Women’s ODI and T20 Internationals; and has hit 382 runs in 19 matches and 976 runs in 40 innings respectively.
