Patent shows Invisible Selfie Camera tech of Samsung’s upcoming flagship

Smartphone manufacturers are trying to make a perfect full display body design at the front for a better-looking smartphone. Smartphone companies were trying various methods for the past few years to achieve this goal. We have seen smartphones with pop-up camera tech as well as the under-display camera. Now we might see Samsung’s under-display vanishing camera or invisible camera whichever you want to say. The mechanism behind this tech is quite complicated but still, it might be a possibility and a method to solve the full-display demand.

As reported by Gizmochina, back in June 2020, Samsung Electronics filed a patent with the WIPO (World Intellectual Property Office) for an ‘Electronic device including sub display and method of operating same.’ This document was approved and published on 24th December 2020. This particular patent is a bit different as it showcases a complicated mechanism of an under-display camera that will be hidden while not in use. Now let’s look into the complicated design and mechanism of the patent.

Samsung

In the above image, we can see that the camera is placed under the display at the top of the device. While not in use a secondary screen stays between the camera and the front glass. But while in use the secondary display is mechanically pulled down so that the light can directly pass through the front glass and reach the camera. Thus the camera can capture without any interruption which is often faced by the under-display cameras. With this method, the quality of the images can be improved to a great extent compared to the under-display cameras. Although the upcoming technology is most likely to be the under-display camera, this mechanism can also pave its way to the market and has the potential to revolutionize the way we use under-display camera.

According to a LetsGoDigital report, this new technology might be seen in a future Samsung flagship handset. It was likely to be used in the Galaxy S21 series but the launch of the device is sooner than ever and also we have seen some leaked images of the devices in this series. Then the only possibility is that it can be featured in the Galaxy S22 series that might launch in 2022. It is still now known that if the company is still working on this tech or not so it is not possible to say if Samsung could possibly come up with this tech in a real smartphone in the coming years or not.
