Intel 16 core Alder Lake-S server CPU spotted on Geekbench

Intel is having some tough times recently as a lot of their upcoming CPUs are getting leaked on Geekbench, or this might be an indication that the blue team is preparing to show their next-gen products at CES 2021.

Howsoever the case may be, after a stretch of Rocket Lake CPU leaks, today there’s a new leak of the upcoming server CPUs from Intel dubbed as Alder Lake-S. In October, we had a lot of rumours surrounding the features and architecture of Alder Lake.

In short, Alder Lake-S will be a hybrid CPU architecture, as confirmed by Intel itself. A hybrid architecture is pretty economical in power consumption but is not highly rated enough to deliver expected boost clocks.

Intel Alder Lake-S sports the smaller Gracemont (GRT) cores and the big cores of Golden Cove (GLC). The smaller cores are the successor of Tremont, while the bigger ones are successors of Willow Coves. The Alder Lake-S will have up to 8 GLC and 8 GRT cores; however, hyperthreading will be offered only in GLC cores.

Also, Alder Lake – S will come with 32 EU Xe LP iGPU and will support Intel’s Gaussian and Neural Accelerator 3.0 (GNA 3.0) edge AI processing. So, previously too, an Alder Lake CPU was assumed, and now we have a live Geekbench listing:

As we see this is 16 cores and 24 threaded Alder Lake-S CPU with 8 big Golden Cove cores and 16 threads (i.e. hyperthreading enabled). Also, we see 8 Gracemont cores and 8 threads (i.e. no hyperthreading), the base clock speed is 1.38GHz and L2 cache of total 12.5MB while the L3 cache is 30MB.

The LGA 1700 platform to come with the Alder Lake will offer support for the latest DDR5 memory. Not to mention, the new CPU will also support the newest PCIe 5.0 along with Thunderbolt and Wi-Fi. Alder Lake-S is expected to launch in second half of 2021, and I will not be surprised to see Intel talking about it in CES.
