Napoli win appeal to replay their match against Juventus

On October 4, the highly awaited match between Juventus and Napoli was abandoned due to the Partenopei being unable to travel to Turin to play the game. They had two positive coronavirus cases in their squad and were prohibited from travelling by the local health authorities, namely ASL.

Owing to their inability to report to the matchday venue to contest the fixture, Juventus were handed a 3-0 victory, and Napoli had a point deducted from their tally.

Now, the Italian Olympic Committee has managed to turn over the decision made by Serie A, and the FIGC. Napoli were found to be bending the rules and avoiding the confrontation with Juventus by not using their youth players to make up the numbers.

However, the risks involved only made it logical to call off the match and play it on another date than have the players at the risk of contracting the virus.

Napoli’s last two moves to get the match played on a later date were rejected by the authorities. However, the third time proved to be the charm for the club, and they will now face the reigning Champions at a later date in the season in what promises to be one of the most exciting fixtures of the season.

Juventus now find themselves in fourth place behind Napoli, both of whom have 24 points from 12 games and have managed to acquire the same goal difference. The Blues lead the table on the basis of goals scored with 26, in contrast to Juventus’ 25.
