Here’s some exciting info about Intel’s Sapphire Rapids Xeon CPUs

With all the terrible news circling intel, it seems that the silicon giant’s troubles aren’t going to end soon. Intel’s next-generation Sapphire Rapids Xeon CPU’s will be launch in the second half of 2021, at least according to rumours. But a leaked slide has revealed the volume launch of the lineup till 2023. According to sources, Intel’s upcoming Xeon CPU families include the recently launched Cooper Lake-SP along with the forthcoming Ice Lake-SP & Sapphire Rapids-SP lineups.

The company’s existing roadmap shows the Sapphire Rapids Xeon CPU family for 2021. But it still isn’t precise which process node Intel will use to fabricate Sapphire Rapid chips. It’s still unclear whether the nodes will be better than the 10nm+ process node which Ice Lake-SP uses. However, Intel will be using its 10nm SuperFin process node, similar to the Tiger Lake mobility CPU lineup, for its next-generation Xeon lineup.

According to sources, Intel plans on producing server GPUs such as the Ponte Vecchio on its 10nm SuperFin process. The slide indicates that a volume ramp for Sapphire Rapids Xeon SP CPUs shouldn’t be expected till 2023. It does not mean that Sapphire Rapids-SP won’t launch at all before 2023. But instead, the supply will not be more than what you expect it to be.
