Watch Dogs Legion review: Keeps its legacy in a new futuristic London

The Watch Dogs series is one of those game series that keeps exciting me as it’s unique and futuristic. However, in the latest instalment of the game, the Watch Dogs Legion, we see the story based on London’s near future where the hacker group called Zero Day has bombed the entire London and has held DedSec responsible.

Yes, DedSec is being shut down here, and you as a gamer are responsible for helping recruit and get London back from the Albion. To assist you, there’s the London Branch of DedSec, led by Sabine Brandt and her AI, Bagley. It’s a new age with critical advancements in AI and automation, improving Britain’s economy at the cost of human jobs.

Cryptocurrencies have overtaken British Pounds. Also, AR and VR systems are spread across the whole city, filled with drones and electric cars, driverless cars, and many more tech stuff. All of this is controlled by ctOS (central Operating System) ─ it is the centralized computer network developed by technology company Blume, featuring in both Watch Dogs and Watch Dogs 2 previously.

Here’s my complete review or say experience about the game:

Story

Indeed I found the story interesting initially, but by the introduction ended, I found myself alone guy recruiting people across the city to fight a big organization. There’s nothing wrong with it; however, I felt digging what’s behind the total massacre behind Zero-Day could have been done correctly.

The story lacks a central character, and you can pick any recruit to do anything across the whole city. Not the best story I’ve ever seen on a game but just ok for the other things that the game offers you.

Recruiting

Instead of talking about gameplay, talking about the recruitment stuff going on here makes broader sense. I like the fact how open the game is, and the wide scope of recruitment the Watch Dogs Legion game offers you, you can recruit a street guy, a lawyer, an officer, a worker, actually anyone you like to.

To get a new member onto DedSec, you have to help the person, and then he is added to your squad. The wider the audience, the better chance is to resist the fight against the Albion which has completely taken over the city.

Without proper intelligence and skills, fight alone is quite difficult; however, you cannot play in groups if some unforeseen things happen to your recruit. You can use another recruit to replace them from the same position of the mission the former left. Also, you have Bagley, the AI, always helping and guiding you at every step; you can make or break with this entire recruitment concept in the game.

A new London

This is the first time I’ve seen such a detailed London, not lifelike to the present, but still, this is a great feat achieved by Ubisoft. The roads, buildings, cars, buses, and everything across the city look futuristic but have the London we know. All the vehicles looked super impressive and futuristic, great to ride on.

However, there is a darker side to everything, and the new future does have so, there are gunfights at the night and illegal activities as well. Fast travel is a future concept that I definitely liked about the game, including some of the insane tech shown in Albion’s security over the city.

Talking of security, the city is flooded with drones from various cargo drones to Albion security drone or a hackable ctOS drone. Hacking drones you have to do a lot of stuff you could never have imagined, if you have played Watch Dogs before, this is not new, however, if you are someone new, you’ll absolutely love this game. Without even entering the mission spot, you can destroy and disturb the environment with your brilliant hacking skills.

Customizations

You can customize your player’s avatar and the look by buying various clothing and accessories from the stores across the city or from the vault in the safehouse.

You can collect Tech points while each mission to gather various cool tech abilities and gadgets. Also, you can upgrade your arsenal with points or gathering from various missions as well, smarter you are the better you can play the game.

Graphics

This is indeed a graphically intensive game and looks beautiful on a good display; the shadows, reflections even without turning ray tracing on, looks great. The buildings, the sky and every other environment of the game vividly depict the city.

The game looks great when you turn on ray tracing but do keep in mind that reduces a lot of frame rates, so using DLSS 2.0 along with RTX is a better choice. If you are an NVIDIA RTX GPU owner, then you should definitely try the new features with your GPU.

Overall Experience

Watch Dogs Legion is a very futuristic and mouth-watering title to Watch Dog series lovers and you should definitely try it. Overall, I feel there’s a lack of solid storyline, however, the open world with the DedSec revolution in London still makes it worth playable.

The endless recruitment associated with various missions and side missions makes it interesting and sometimes gives you a feel of GTA. However, hacking cameras, drones, cars and lot more gives it a unique flavour, its graphically intensive and visually impressive but lacks that final touch which it promised earlier.
