Is Samsung planning to lure customers with new ‘foldable’ designs?

Innovations in the electronics market are very necessary. If you don’t invest in the company’s research & development (R&D), your company might not be able to sustain competition. This is what happened with Micromax in 2015. But the South Korean company, Samsung, is too experienced to do these types of mistakes. If we believe certain reports, Samsung might be coming with yet another innovative idea that will attract a lot of new customers.

Samsung is trying to play with the design of their products. These phones might find a whole new way to fold soon. The upcoming Galaxy Z Fold3 will be launched with this new feature thanks to the entrance of thicker foldable glass and some other minor tweaks. Earlier, it was rumored that Galaxy Z Fold2 will be coming with Samsung’s S Pen support when the company started using ultra-thin glass (UTG) but that plan failed to come to reality. However, the new Galaxy Fold3 will be having this. It has been possible to take place due to a couple of changes. Firstly, the thickness of the UTG has been increased from 30 micrometers to 60 micrometers. This will increase the resilience of the display panel. Secondly, Samsung is planning to switch to an active electrostatic solution (AES) from the electromagnetic resonance (EMR) technology which is used for S-Pen support in the Note range.

The Galaxy Fold3 will have a compact 7-inch main display and a 4-inch secondary screen. It is rumored to debut in the third quarter of next year. ‘Z Fold Lite’ which is the long-awaited first-gen “affordable” foldable will come up with CPI coating which is considered to be more fragile than the UTG. It is expected to launch during the first or second quarter of 2021.

Samsung’s first idea is to launch rollable smartphones. It will roll around a central shaft. Then it can be unraveled like a scroll. How amazing is that? But at the same time, this idea is still very far to come to the ground. Their second idea is to have four screens that can be unfolded to form one giant tablet.
