Never forget a thing with the Samsung Smart Tag object tracker

Smart object trackers are the new technology which is luring a lot of people. According to some reports, Samsung, one of the world’s largest producers of electronic devices, has filed for a trademark with the EUIPO (European Union Intellectual Property Office). Reports stated that the trademark was filed on 30th November 2020. This has come just after the certification of a Galaxy Smart Tag device (model number EI-T5300) from Indonesian Telecom. The Samsung Smart Tag trademark filing includes computer hardware for providing NFC tag identification data; electronic security tags; a wireless tracking device and more. This would not be Samsung’s first object tracker. Their first one was SmartThings LTE-enabled tracker which was launched two years before.

According to rumors, early this year, Apple was in line to launch its ‘AirTags’. Now it looks like Samsung wants to directly compete with the US giant and launch a similar gadget first. This is surely going to put some pressure on Apple to speed up their process. The Smart Tag device we are talking about here will be used to track other objects. This will be done with the aid of NFC (Near-Field-Communication) and RFID (radio-frequency identification). Another feature of this Smart Tag is that it will allow people to log in to various Samsung services. Also, they will be able to unlock their Samsung devices without any issue.

One point to put special focus on is that filing for a trademark does not necessarily mean that the final product will be very close to a launch. A company can file for a trademark even if that product is a part of the company’s long-term plan. Yet, the market believes that Samsung will unveil the SmartTag gadget at the upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event. This event is planned to take place within the starting two months of next year.
