Arsenal gets their first win at Old Trafford in 14 years as Manchester United collapse again at home

Old Trafford is not looking like a ‘fortress’ to Manchester United this season in the Premier League. Manchester United is yet to win a game at Old Trafford this season in the Premier League. In their first 4 league games, they managed to collect only 1 point.

Manchester United lost against Arsenal by 1-0. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s 69th-minute penalty sealed the victory for the Gunners. It was the first time in 14 years Arsenal beat Manchester United at Old Trafford. Mikel Arteta becomes the second Arsenal manager to beat Manchester United in his first 2 games against them.

After an extra-ordinary display against the Bundesliga leader RB Leipzig in mid-week, it was expected that Manchester United will continue with their rhythm. Manchester United fielded a 4-4-2 formation with a diamond in midfield with Pogba, Mctominay, Fred, and Bruno. On the other hand, Arsenal was playing with a 3-4-3 formation. Manchester United failed to play well in the final third and could not create enough chances to test the arsenal goalkeeper Bernard Leno.

In the 69th minute, Paul Pogba tripped Hector Bellerin in the penalty box and conceded a cheap penalty. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang kept his nerve and squished it into the bottom corner to take the lead. He also ends his goal drought by scoring from the spot.

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer threw in Donny Van De Beek, Edinson Cavani, and Matic in place of Bruno, Greenwood, and Fred respectively. But they also failed to change the situation.

Manchester United will face Everton at Goodison Park next weekend. It will be another tough test for the Red Devils. If Solskjaer fails to win that tie as well, calls would be made for a managerial change. So it’s a do-or-die situation for United.
