Marcus Rashford is one of Manchester United’s best players and is bound for an illustrious career with the club. However, what sets him apart from all the other players over the country is the fact that he realises the importance of giving back to society.
Rashford is extremely vocal about his stance against childhood hunger on social media and has also participated in, as well as conducted various campaigns towards that end.
His consistent efforts towards the problem have earned him an MBE at the age of 22. However, he will not be shortlisted among the candidates for the Sports Personality of the Year.
The reason cited for this shocking snub of the Manchester United star is rumoured to be a lack of ‘sporting achievements’ in a season that saw him win the PFA Merit Award. However, Manchester United finished the season with no pieces of silverware to their name.
The England international’s absence from the shortlist is absolutely sure to spark outrage among people who have been keeping tabs on his great work off the pitch, regardless of the club that they support.
Rashford’s campaign has seen him oppose the United Kingdom government itself. As of recently, he has been working towards schools and other facilities providing free meals to children throughout the holiday season.
During the summer, the UK Government managed to get schools to provide their students with a free meal thanks to the efforts of Rashford. However, he asked for an extension of the support provided by the government, which has been rejected.
However, it seems like the authorities will try to create another award, or try to bend the rules and make an exception for Sir Rashford at the very least. Whether or not he gets an award for his work off the pitch, we can all wholeheartedly agree that the work done by the United forward is absolutely fantastic.
