Predicting the WINNERS of the Champions League 2020-21 season

It has only been 58 days since the 19/20 edition of the Champions League reached its conclusion. Today, we find ourselves awaiting the first matchday of the 20/21 Champions League, headlined by Chelsea vs Sevilla, Lazio vs Borussia Dortmund and PSG vs Manchester United.

Though the final is almost a year away, it is always in the interest of football fans to be amidst the speculation. With that in mind, let’s have a look at the 5 teams most likely to win the Champions League.

5. Barcelona

Considering the string of humiliating Champions League exits that Barcelona have faced over the last four years, it is a surprise that they made this list. However, things are looking different under Ronald Koeman.

The change in formation is the most eye-catching move by the former Netherlands coach, and it seems to be working well. Messi and Co. will be determined to not have a repeat of the shambolics of the years gone by, and going by the current form, it seems like they have a chance.

4. Juventus

Gigi Buffon is 41, Ronaldo is 35, Bonucci is 33 while Chiellini is 36. Juventus seem to be doing justice to the tag of the Old Lady. And despite this being player-turned-manager Pirlo’s debut season in charge, it looks like the boys from Turin have a chance at the cup.

Currently, Juventus are unbeaten in Serie A and have managed to draw twice. With the likes of Ronaldo, Dybala, Kulusevski and Chiesa amongst their ranks, this could finally be the year that the Champions League trophy returns to the back to back 9-time Serie A winners.

3. Manchester City

It has been a heartbreaking few years for Manchester City when it comes to the Champions League. The exit against Tottenham in the 18/19 season, and bowing out to Lyon in the quarters last season has been particularly hard to take.

A partnership of Ruben Dias and Aymeric Laporte at the back might just be what Guardiola needs to supplement his blistering attacking line-up as he tries to lead the club to a debut Champions League title.

2. Real Madrid

Real Madrid

One of the most settled squads in Europe, Real have won the most number of Champions League titles at 13. Though they haven’t managed to win it since the departure of Ronaldo to Juventus, Zidane has adapted to the absence of the Portuguese forward well.

Madrid are a fortress and are one of the best defensive teams in Europe. With star power in almost every position on the field, it seems only fair that Los Blancos are right up there in the conversation to win the trophy for the 14th time.

1. Bayern Munich

It is difficult, nay, foolish to bet against the reigning Champions of Europe. Especially given that they were unbeaten in 2020 before the match against Hoffenheim.

Hansi Flick has transformed Bayern into an almost invincible team once again, winning every single trophy available in only his first year as manager.

With LewanGOALski, Sane, Muller, Kimmich and Neuer to only name a few, Bayern Munich easily have one of the best squads in the world and might just repeat their performance in the season gone by, defending their title successfully.
