Google is turning YouTube into an E-commerce platform

The current pandemic era has caused a major change in the consumer spending curve. With the focus of investment now completely shifting towards e-commerce, it seems that global retail is heading towards a new era of change.

With the e-commerce market dominated by the likes of Amazon and Walmart owned Flipkart, it hardly any room for new e-commerce businesses to make a global impact.

But what if another tech giant enters the fray. That’s right, Alphabet-owned Google is trying to dip its fingers in the vast sea of online retailing.

Soon every advertisement of products that you see on youtube could be available for online sales. But the products would be sold on Youtube itself.

How do you convert a video site into an e-commerce retail market?

Apparently, Youtube’s developers are trying to implement Youtube software to tag and track products featured in videos shown on the platform. This data will be linked to shopping and analytics tools from Google itself.

the android maker aims to convert the youtube collection of advertisement videos into a vast catalogue of items that the viewers can use to buy items directly from the google itself.

Sources also claim that the company is also testing integration with Shopify Inc. in order to sell items through its video platform.

Youtube is reportedly testing the new shopping feature only with a limited number of video channels. the company however has declined to make any further comments on this matter.

The embracing of e-commerce by YouTube has the potential to convert the world’s largest video website into a new contender for e-commerce leaders like Amazon, Alibaba, and Walmart.

The new feature added on youtube will most certainly allow Google to establish itself in the e-commerce market. But amazon and Walmart owned Flipkart is unlikely to take it by simply lying down.

The advertising clips providing are for product links to Amazon and Flipkart. With Google adding a buy button to this clips potential seems like a kick in the back for these retail giants. And they most certainly will not welcome this move with open arms.
