Bayern Munich will sign Espanyol’s Marc Roca pending medical checks

It seems like as the window deadline draws closer, Bayern want to jump into action. The latest news coming out is that the German champions are set to sign Marc Roca from Espanyol for a fee of 15 million euros. The player will sign a four-year contract with the club and will have his medical shortly.

Roca is a defensive midfielder who has a particular knack of reading the game. And aged just 23 years, he has a great opportunity to learn from some of the best players in the world. This transfer, however, comes as a surprise to many, with people wondering whether he has the ability to play for a big club like Bayern coming from Espanyol. Regardless, the club’s scouting has been impeccable in recent times.

Coming in as a squad player, Roca will prove to be a much valuable footballer in the sense it will ease the workload of first choice Joshua Kimmich, the German who is often deployed somewhere between right-back and midfield.

Marc Roca is also known to be a great passer of the ball who positions himself in the deeper areas of midfield. A destroyer with a keen eye for timed tackles, he also stays fit and has a good injury record. Roca had a pass success rate of 87% whilst making 1.2 aerial duels per game. The Spanish midfielder is also slightly adept going forward, often playing passes that bypass over the opposition midfield.

Roca made 35 appearances for Espanyol last year. The one big positive for Roca would be his ambition of playing for the Spanish national team will now be boosted. Should he feature regularly in this Bayern team, then those chances will only increase.

As for Bayern fans, they will hope that this move works out well. After the departure of Thiago and with Javi Martinez close to the exit door, the midfield will receive freshness in its depth.
