Why there’s a deficit of AMD Ryzen 4000 APUs in the Indian market? – AMD answers

In 2020, AMD has been making headlines with their new Ryzen 4000 APUs that have totally dominated the laptop market and it is evident from their Q2 earnings. Although Intel has made a lot of offerings in the form of 10th gen CPUs, but could never match with AMD’s price-to-performance ratio. While Intel still remains on 4 cores, AMD has jumped to 8 cores not only with gaming-centric H-series but also for the efficient 15W TDP based U series.

This has resulted in a surging demand for AMD powered laptops, especially when even a thin and light notebook too can now have 8 physical cores which can result in blazing fast performances. People can now get amazing speeds on laptops without having to spend much because the lower Ryzen 3 4300U is more powerful than the last-gen flagship. Also, the 7nm efficiency has helped these APUs deliver incredible battery life that was a weak spot for AMD until now.

In India too people have gone crazy about new Ryzen 4000U & 4000H powered laptops, from Lenovo to Dell, from Asus to HP, every OEM has introduced their new Ryzen laptops in India. However, the point is, most of the laptops have been retailing with much higher pricing these days and people have been complaining to me regarding this also a lot of them like the Lenovo Ideapad Slim 5, Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 has been out of stock for weeks now.

AMD Ryzen 7 4800H surpasses Intel Core i7-9700K desktop CPU in Time Spy benchmark

So, a lot of you asked me to contact AMD and so I did, I asked the following question:

Why AMD’s new Ryzen 4000 APU powered laptops are getting price hikes and getting out of stock recently in India? It would be great to know what’s AMD’s point of view regarding this

To that AMD India representative has answered:

“We are seeing unprecedented demand for our AMD Ryzen 4000 mobile series processors based on leadership performance and energy efficiency. AMD Ryzen 4000 processor sales ramped faster than any mobile processor in AMD history, resulting in AMD gaining 5.8 points of mobile market share in 2020 (Mercury). We are increasing production to address the incremental demand requests from our customers for AMD Ryzen 4000 series processors and are focused on growing our footprint in the notebook market.”

It’s true, AMD is having mind-blowing sales, and as we heard from other sources as well, this is an international deficit, however, rest be assured AMD is trying to resolve this. I have been informed soon, this situation with Ryzen 4000 APUs will be resolved and in India, not only the previously launched ones but also, a lot of new ones will be arriving as well.

However, the overpricing situation might get resolved as well when ample stocks arrive and do not fall into prey of wrong pricing on both Amazon and Flipkart. I have seen laptops like HP Omen 15 getting almost Rs.6k-7k price hikes on Amazon, so wait for few days until the situation gets resolved, if you have any queries feel free to comment or email us.

  1. I’ve been waiting for the hp omen Ryzen model since a month. Now it’s available on Amazon but not on HP’s official site. That looked real fishy so I didn’t buy it on Amazon. Do you recommend otherwise? Should I buy it from Amazon?

    • I dont think the ryzen cpu defecit will be solved anytime soon so i suggest u buy the i5 intel model like me coz i couldnt wait till next year. No i dont recommend buying online , i have always bought my laptops from offline stores.

  2. I’ve been waiting for AMD RYZEN 4500u or 4700u in either ACER, LENOVO OR ASUS. But like you’ve mentioned it’s been out of stock since forever and I can’t seem to find anyone who has stock at this point.
Also, any update on how we might find out when they get back in stock?

  3. I recently brought Asus um425ia, ryzen 7 4700u model for 88k in Asus stores, rather than in flipkart or Amazon which are 7k-9k difference in price.
