FC Barcelona legend, Ronald Koeman officially announced as next Barça coach

The Blaugranas have officially announced the arrival of Ronald Koeman and we already knew he was being appointed and even Bartomeu even told yesterday about his arrival. Today, FC Barcelona has officially announced Ronald Koeman as its next head coach, who himself has a lot of things attached to this club as he was a legend at the club playing for about six seasons.

Koeman is the ideal man for Barca because he knows how the club works and has a lot of experience under his belt. He was himself coached by the legendary Johan Cruyff and obviously, still the club follows Cruyff’s principle of playing football, so having Ronald Koeman as the coach is a natural advantage for the club undoubtedly.

The 57 years old had a contract with the Dutch international team until 2022 and to sign him, Barça has had to pay compensation of about five million euros. The coach has also decided to sacrifice part of his salary to help Barça meet that payment and Koeman has signed for two seasons, until June 30, 2022.

The Dutchman also achieved his dream to coach the team in which he triumphed as a player under Johan Cruyff. When he came to Barça he became the second most expensive signing in the Club’s history behind Diego Maradona.

As a Barça player Koeman made 264 official appearances, scoring 88 goals, many of them from his trade mark free kicks on his way to becoming the highest scoring defender in the Club’s history. Koeman claimed 10 trophies in his time as a blaugrana: four La Liga titles, a European Cup, a Copa del Rey, a European Super Cup and three Spanish Super Cups.

The best moment for Koeman as a player of Barcelona would obviously be the Wembley final in 1992, scoring the only goal of the game, that too in extra time winner giving the Blaugranes a 1-0 victory over Sampdoria, this gave their first ever victory in the European Cup and secured his place in FC Barcelona history.

Apart from coaching the Dutch team, Koeman has extensive experience as manager of Ajax, Benfica, PSV Eindhoven, Valencia, AZ Alkmaar, Feyenoord, Southampton, and Everton. He has now become the fifth Dutchman to coach FC Barcelona after Rinus Michels, Johan Cruyff, Louis Van Gaal and Frank Rijkaard.

Koeman is straight and tough when it comes to demanding responsibilities and obligations, however, he is affable in dealing with the player if he is professional and fulfills his instructions. It will be a tough job to revive the current situation at the club and he has to deal with a lot of things in these extraordinary circumstances. Koeman will formally be presented by the club in the evening today.
