Juventus appoint Andrea Pirlo as the new coach of their first team

Juventus has already sacked Maurizio Sarri on Saturday after crashing out of the Champions League. Despite Cristiano Ronaldo’s heroics, Juventus were knocked out by Lyon on away goal rule.

Previously, Juventus appointed their club legend Andrea Pirlo as the coach of their under-23 team. But after sacking Sarri, Juventus has gone for their homegrown coach just like Real Madrid did with Zinedine Zidane, Chelsea with Frank Lampard and Manchester United with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Juventus released an official statement: “Andrea Pirlo is the new Juventus coach. 41-years-old and born in Flero in the province of Brescia, Pirlo has had a legendary career as a player that has led him to win everything, from the Champions League to the World Cup in 2006. In his four years at the centre of the Juventus midfield, Pirlo won as many league titles, a Coppa Italia and two Italian Super Cups.”

“Today, begins a new chapter of his career in the world of football, as it was said almost a week ago: from Maestro to Mister. From today he will be THE coach for people of Juventus, as the club has decided to entrust him with the technical leadership of the First Team, after having already selected him for Juventus Under 23. Today’s choice is based on the belief that Pirlo has what it takes to lead from his debut on the bench, an expert and talented squad to pursue new successes.”

Maurizio Saari hasn’t been able to unlock the full potential of this team. The way he likes his team to play, known as ‘Sarri ball’ is no longer an effective method. Juventus won the league because they had a good season before the Coronavirus break. After the season resumed Juventus were nowhere near their best. They won the league by a slender margin of 1 point.

Although Juventus won their 9th straight Serie A title, Sarri hasn’t been able to build the team. It was the Champions League loss which has put the final nail in the coffin.

Now, the Juventus board has put faith on their own legend Andrea Pirlo for bringing the Champions League trophy to Turin. They have appointed Pirlo for an initial 2 years. He knows the club inside out so it can very well suit Juventus. Cristiano Ronaldo and co will finally be able to put a strong claim to the Champions League trophy.
