The Frenchman didn’t really have a usual season at the Camp Nou as he had at Wanda Metropolitano under Simeone. Obviously, there a lot of factors that have led to this and made him score 15 goals and 6 assists.
This is a good record but not the best considering a player of his caliber. In his last year at Atlético, he scored 21 goals and 10 assists. Here in Barcelona, he played a different position under 2 coaches and yes, it’s difficult for an outsider to aim trust at the club.
Then there come the club heavyweights like Leo Messi or Luis Suarez who are the main man in attacks. Under Valverde, the Frenchman played mostly as a winger which is totally illogical, whereas under Setien he often changed positions to help the team.
Griezmann was best at Atletico as he took the ‘Messi’ role there but here at Barcelona you already have Messi. So, obviously it’s up to Messi who he put the ball forward to, until Valverde’s time at Barca, Griezmann was often not given the opportunity by Messi and Saurez.
But when the league title was going out of hands, we saw a deadly trio in the away match against Villarreal. A player who won the World Cup can never be a flop but it as due to the board and the coaching management who have to have a proper place before signing any player.
Throwing money and ruining careers has been a long time job for this Barcelona board. The astronomically huge signings they made makes no sense until you use them, Coutinho never got his preferred position to play and was loaned out even when Barcelona lacked attacking.
When it comes to Griezmann, his work rate and his amazing defensive duties have impressed everyone. So the board as for now has added him to the untouchable list, according to MD, which includes Messi, Ter Stegan, De Jong, and others.

However, provided how fickle-minded this Barca board if a club appears in September looking for a franchise player of Antoine’s level, Barça will listen to the offer. But it is up to the Frenchman who wants to move or not and respect his contact you to 2024.
Griezmann looks forward to proving himself in the Champions League and come back strong next season. His recent tweet also suggests he can be given his lucky number 7 jersey next season as well.
