Huawei’s now relies on MediaTek chips, SoC orders increased by 300%

MediaTek and Xiaomi has shared a great partnership over the years as a smartphone chipmaker and a smartphone maker respectively. Xiaomi, with its huge resources tried to develop its own chips in past few years but it failed ultimately.

There’s no denial of the fact that the Chinese smartphone giant has sourced increasingly more processors and a brand new report indicates that both companies will collaborate to develop a brand new custom made smartphone processor for future smartphones.

This can actually makes sense because of its failure in past, Xiaomi is partnering with the Silicon giant to readily make its custom chips, like we saw with Microsoft and AMD for custom SoCs for laptops. To implement own set of features and optimizations Xiaomi can use its skill and technology by MediaTek.

Both the companies share amazing collaborative projects like the Redmi Note 8 Pro, which was the first device equipped with the Helio G90T chip. Likewise, the newer Redmi 10X smartphone was also the first to feature the newer Dimensity 820 SoC.

According to rumours, a brand new Redmi smartphone with Dimensity 1000++ processor will launch later this year, so custom constructed processor is not far fetched. Xiaomi’s move would all in accord with the latest trend of OEMs switching towards custom-constructed or developed chips for their own offerings.

The information arrives from Digital Chat Station, a famous leakster, which revealed the info on his Weibo account. However, how much reliable the tipster is, still we can take this information with a grain of salt but you can never totally deny the possibility of Mediatek and Xiaomi’s collaboration for custom chip development.
