Quique Setien seeks Bartomeu’s help to lower the importance of Messi’s say at Barcelona

Things inside Barcelona’s boardroom are not going well. It has come to the forefront in recent times that the internal matters have not been dealt with properly. The sacking of Ernesto Valverde didn’t go well with the players. Then club vice president Rosario resigned from the Barcelona board of directors.

Lionel Messi, who previously used to keep quiet, has come out and spoke openly in the last few months. He publicly criticised Eric Abidal. Then again while accepting a pay cut to help the club financially during the Coronavirus pandemic, he took a go at the club hierarchy once again.

Messi gave an interview a few days back. He stated that Barcelona can’t win the Champions League by playing in the way they were playing before the Coronavirus break. This statement of Messi has not gone down well with club head coach Quique Setien. He sees this statement as a disrespect to his goals.

Setien doesn’t have Champions League experience and this thing bothers Messi. He feels he has enough experience to know when he is on the right line. He doesn’t believe Setien’s saying that they are going in the right track.

As reported by Don Balon, Setien has asked Bartomeu to give Messi a touch with the subject of the statements to the press of his impressions and his criticism of the club’s internal operation. Setien believes that this hurts the team a lot and wears him away from his goals.
Bartomeu is also aware that if he transmits this message to Messi and the Argentine takes it badly, it could be the end of an era for Leo and Barcelona.

Marc-Andre ter Stegen has already been in the news amid talks that he and Messi have fallen out over the lack of voice given to other Barcelona players. It was also thought earlier that the French trio of Antoine Griezmann, Ousmane Dembele and Samuel Umtiti had declared their revolt against the club’s captain and his involvement in everything.

Maybe, the thing which Setien is asking for is not that bad. It may help the team in many ways. The other players will feel equally important and start to behave as a group rather than individuals. Lionel Messi is obviously the heart of Barcelona, but no player is greater than the club itself.
