Andre Onana arrived at Ajax from Barcelona in 2015 for a very nominal fee. At Ajax, he has developed into a world-class goalkeeper. He now feels he is ready to take the next step.
He has spent five years at Ajax. He made 178 appearances, allowing just 158 goals and earning a whopping 74 clean sheets.
Onana has been linked to top European clubs after Ajax’s dream run in the Champions League last season. The Yashin Trophy nominee has reignited interest from Barcelona. He has also been linked to Premier League clubs including Chelsea.
The Cameroon goalkeeper told AD on Tuesday: “Don’t get me wrong, I am very happy with Ajax and I am very grateful to the club.”
“It was five great years here, but now my time has come to take a step. We made that appointment last year.”
“I don’t yet know what will happen, but my ambitions and agreements are clear.”
Onana is contracted to Ajax until 2022 but he feels ready to take the next step. Barcelona is reportedly interested in bringing their former player back to Camp Nou.
