Thierry Henry was one of the finest finishers of football. He was a deadly striker. He spent eight seasons with Arsenal and won two Premier League titles. He had a glittering career at Arsenal.
But Arsenal failed to stamp their dominance in Europe. They failed in the Champions League. Henry went to Barcelona in 2007 in search for the Champions League title.
Messi, who himself is considered as the best by many, was starstruck while he met Henry for the first time after his move to Barcelona.
Messi told L’Equipe: “The first day he entered the dressing room, I did not dare to look him in the face. I knew everything he had done in England. I had an image of him made and suddenly we were on the same team.”
“What I feel for Titi may be a form of admiration. I loved Henry. The ease of finishing an action, how he takes the road to the goal and ends the play.”
“He gives the impression that it is natural. His career, his dribbling, the last gesture. It is fluid, proportionate.”
Henry had his wish fulfilled in Barcelona. He won the Champions League during his spell at the Camp Nou. He won the treble – LaLiga, Champions League and Copa del Rey in 2009 along with Messi. Henry scored 49 goals for Barcelona in his total of 121 appearances spanning 3 seasons.
