Xiaomi Mi CC9 Pro with 108MP Penta lens, SD730G launched in China

Xiaomi launches the first smartphone with 108MP Penta-Camera Setup, Snapdragon 730G, curved display & 5,260mAh battery for 2,799 Yuan

Having launched the Mi CC9 lineup earlier this year, the much-awaited Mi CC9 Pro makes its way in China. The Mi CC9 series focusses on the premiumness of the smartphone and also equips some great cameras, targetting the young audience.

Today Xiaomi has unveiled a premium smartphone that features a flagship-grade design, curved display panel and for the first time ever, a 108MP Penta-camera setup on the rear.

Design & Display

The Mi CC9 Pro has a standard glass-sandwich design that gives a premium feel to the smartphone. It almost looks like the premium smartphones by Samsung or Huawei, and both the front and rear panel is curved at the edges that give a “rounded and comfortable” feel. The handset measures 157.8 x 74.2 x 9.67mm and weighs 208 grams.

The smartphone has a glass design with a curved rear panel looks to be quite glossy and shiny. The Mi CC9 Pro features a waterdrop notch and has an edge-to-edge curved AMOLED display of 6.47 inches. The display has 1080 x 2340 pixels Full HD+ resolution.

The smartphone has a TUV Rheinland approved screen that helps in filtering harmful blue rays. It features a 19.5:9 aspect ratio display, offering a 400000:1 contrast ratio, HDR-support, 600-nits brightness and DCI-P3 wide colour gamut. Overall, the display looks stunning and especially the curved display gives it a premium feel.

Performance

As mentioned earlier, the smartphone features the modern and powerful octa-core Snapdragon 730G SoC which is the nest best SoC after the Snapdragon 855. The gaming-centric chipset gives an extra boost to the performance being clocked at higher clock speeds. It’s coupled with up to 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 3.0 storage, it lacks a microSD card slot.

Camera

Obviously, one of the key highlights of this smartphone is the cameras featuring a 108-megapixel Penta-lens camera system. The first camera in this setup is a 4-axis OIS assisted 5MP super-telephoto lens that supports both 5x optical zoom, 10x hybrid zoom and also can be used for 50x hybrid zoom. 

Second, comes the 12MP portrait sensor for depth sensing and has a pixel size of 1.4micon. The third sensor is the main one, for the first time ever, featuring Samsung’s 108MP sensor with f/1.7 aperture and 4-axis OIS. The regular edition has the 7P lens while the Premium Edition has 8P lens, helping you to capture better photos.

Next comes the 20MP ultrawide lens with 117-degree field-of-view and the last one is a 2MP macro lens with a focal length of 1.5cm. Assisting the Penta camera setup there’s a pair of the dual-LED flash unit. The Mi CC9 Pro has been optimized well to be used for vlogging. On the front, there’s an f/2.0 aperture 32-megapixel selfie camera.

The smartphone great AI camera features like the Ai beauty, AI scene recognition, AI smart slimming, AI studio light effect, portrait mode and super night scene mode. On the other hand, the macro video shooting, 960fps slow-motion HD video shooting and 4K video shooting are some of its key benefits of this camera-centric smartphone.

The selfie snapper on the front, supports 3D beauty, front HDR, display flash, panorama, AI scene recognition and Mimoji.

Xiaomi did flaunt the DxOMark benchmarks of the Mi CC9 Pro which matched with the costlier Mate 30 Pro, both scoring 121 on the list, even beating the premium Galaxy Note 10+. The Mi CC9 Pro DxOMark score is an average of 130 points in photography tests and 102 points in videography tests, which is in fact better than Mate 30 Pro’s 100 scores.

Connectivity & Audio

The connectivity options that you get with the Mi CC9 Pro are dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, multi-functional NFC, GPS, IR blaster, USB-C and 3.5mm headphone jack. On the audio front, the Mi CC9 Pro features a 1CC large loudspeaker coupled with a smart PA that can produce up to twofold audio output being compared to speakers found on other smartphones and it does support Hi-Res audio. 

Another notable feature is that the Mi CC9 Pro feature world’s first phone to feature an ultra-thin optical in-display fingerprint sensor. This comes with a larger fingerprint recognition area and can be unlocked even with very dry or wet fingers.

Battery & OS

With such great specs, at that $399 price bracket, Xiaomi has stuffed a huge 5,260mAh battery pack with 30W fast-charging support. Xiaomi even claims that it can charge the phone in an hour, beating the Mate 30 Pro’s 40W charging as well.  

The Mi CC9 Pro packs the latest Android 10-based MIUI 11 out-of-the-box, which lacked in the Redmi Note 8 Pro and has some interesting features like the dark theme, horizon light and other work/ life-focused features.

Another interesting feature that this smartphone has in common with Redmi K20 lineup is the breathing light feature on the display, that allows its edges to blink when the phone receives a notification.

Pricing & Availability

The base variant with 6 GB RAM + 128 GB storage of the Mi CC9 Pro has been priced at 2,799 yuan (approx Rs.28,250), the 8 GB RAM + 128 GB storage variant will cost you 3,099 yuan (approx Rs.31,250).

On the other hand, the Premium Edition with 8 GB RAM + 256 GB storage and 8P lens will cost 3,499 yuan (approx Rs. 35,250).

The smartphone will be available in three colour variants – Ice & Snow Aurora (white) and magical green, and dark night phantom (black). While pre-booking has started today in China, it will be made available from November 11. In the international markets, Xiaomi will be selling the Mi CC9 Pro as the Xiaomi MI Note 10.
