EA Sports in jeopardy after Konami acquires Juventus license

After Konami steals a long term deal with Juventus, EA Sports to rename the club to Piemonte Calcio for FIFA 20

EA Sports has been well known for its iconic FIFA video game series featuring top-notch world football teams, iconic stadiums and stunning gameplay. On the other hand, Konami is well known for its Pro Evolution Soccer series often termed as PES.

The PES series has not been that famous as EA’s FIFA because of the lack of original club partnerships, player tie-ups and lack of various iconic football stadiums. PES had to use similar kind of stadiums and names to compensate with EA’s FIFA.

In the past years, Konami has gradually started investing more and acquired FC Barcelona as its partnered club taking away the iconic Camp Nou stadium from EA Sports. Also their mobile application PES Mobile has been gaining a lot of popularity because of its intuitive gameplay.

Recently Konami has made a big move by acquiring Juventus FC’s exclusive license. Juventus FC is a fan’s favourite team not only because of the presence of Cristiano Ronaldo but also it’s Italy’s best team and one of the world’s best as well.

By acquiring Juventus FC’s exclusive license, Konami can feature original player names, stadium, official kits, crest and more.

The partnership between KONAMI and Juventus FC provides the eFootballPES series creators with exclusive use of Juventus FC within console football video games, including the team name, crest and official kits. In addition, the development team has been granted in-depth access to the players themselves to recreate their likenesses in the new game as accurately as possible,” says Konami in its announcement.

Konami will be using a full-body 3D scan of original Juventus players to provide the most accurate recreation of their movements. You also get the exclusive Allianz Stadium to play in with original Juventus players.

This will surely hurt EA Sports because the Italian giants were the featured team in last year’s FIFA 2019 and Cristiano Ronaldo was the cover player along with Dybala.

Giorgio Ricci, Chief Revenue Officer commented: “We are particularly proud of the partnership signed with Konami. This agreement sees two global football and entertainment icons, PES and Juventus partnering together for the next three years, and it will allow us to more easily identify with our younger fans, as well as increase our appeal to both sports fans and those of esports.”

Miralem Pjanić has been announced Official eFootball PES Ambassador which means he will be featured on the cover of eFootball PES 2020 and will also be involved in a variety of upcoming activations with Juventus FC and KONAMI throughout the year.

Passionate Juventus fans will now prefer eFootball PES 2020 over FIFA 20 which is expected to debut on September 10th for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.

Will Piemonte Calcio have the original Juventus players?

Though Juventus brand as a whole will not be a part of FIFA 20’s journey it will still retain the original player names.

EA Sports explained: “Real-world players, including authentic names and faces, will be used in the Piemonte Calcio squad throughout FIFA 20 and FIFA 20 Ultimate Team.”

So key Juventus players like Matthijs de Ligt, Aaron Ramsey and Cristiano Ronaldo will be playing in a different uniform for a different named team.

Apart from the name, outfit and stadium, Piemonte Calcio will strongly resemble Juventus and the Italian giants will be fully incorporated into the game, playable in Kick-Off, Ultimate Team, Career Mode, as well as VOLTA Football.
